Why I migrated back from Linux to Windows

While I was enjoying the ‘good life’, Operating System wise speaking, by running CrunchBang. I had a few things to do in Windows. By investing in a SSD a month ago I can switch OSs within the hour(!). But why?

  • have a few of my Dutch clients complaining the html forms at both OnsPlanB.NL and EKPC.NL are not working correctly; endless loops to be precise. So needed a genuine IE8 and IE9 to do some testing. And while that can indeed be done with virtualisation, the next issue cannot:
  • got myself a brand new Apple iPod Touch. Linux & Apple is a bad combination in general, but especially when you have a Touch 4G model. It won’t show up as an USB device, neither can it interface with Amarok, Banshee, iFuse or even podgtk. Reason is no support from the libimobiledevice (only upto  iOS 4.0.1).
  • My webcam works again! Without hassle. Just as I needed it … or don’t I? Was actually getting used to  the software setup I had in Linux.
  • Need to print some PDF files (including the Diamond Rush Guide) without hassle.
  • Sync a lot of my data with Google Docs using InSync

While I’m at Windows 7, the Performance Edition even. Geez … now I know again WHY I was running CrunchBang Linux. 1GB of RAM simply ain’t enough in Windows 7, not even for just browsing around the Internet. How long will I keep running Windows 7? Whehe. Two days tops. Actually hoping to get the OSX86 DSDT in the new few days to run Hackintosh.

>>> Update 16Jan12: Checkout my “Getting your iPhone, iPod or iPad to work with virtualisation of iTunes on Linux”-blogpost … + was also able to virtualise my Epson DX4450 USB printer. Actually I’m able to do all of the above.

Update 18Feb12: none of it matters anymore though! I’m back at D430n Hackintosh!
